Bob Johnson’s Boston Jazz Trio performed a benefit performance for the Veterans’ Initiative of the Mental Health Association in Talbot County. The jazz concert was held at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, followed by dessert and coffee at Out of the Fire. The committee that planed the event was very pleased to have the jazz artists in Easton to raise funds for local veterans’ health initiatives.
The Boston Trio consists of guitarist Bob Johnson, pianist Phill Argyris, and bassist Jerry Wilfong. Talented jazz artist Johnson is originally from Boston and has worked with Argyris and Wilfong, both Boston-based, on and off for twenty years. Together they have concertized at Boston’s best jazz clubs, including the Acton Jazz Café, voted by Downbeat Magazine as one of the top one-hundred jazz clubs in the world. The Trio has also performed at jazz festivals throughout New England and was featured in Pont Aven, France at its festival for American Music. The Trio performed as a rhythm section for jazz artists Herb Pomeroy, Stan Strickland, and Bill Pierce.
The Trio performed interpretations of songs from the 30’s and 40’s, music from the Great American Songbook, Cole Porter, and a few jazz standards.
The second Jazz Concert Benefit will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010. More information to come.
