Chesapeake HELPS: Local Needs? Local Resources!

Contact Chesapeake HELPS at 1-866-722-HLPS to speak with a resource specialist, Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Chesapeake HELPS serves as the gateway to services with resource and referral information available to all residents of the mid-shore area. Resource Specialists will help ensure a child-centered, family-focused, community-based, and culturally competent System of Care. Resource Specialists will answer calls; assess needs; and navigate callers immediately to the appropriate resources. Later, they will follow up to make sure callers have been connected to the resources and are satisfied with the services received. The Survivors of Suicide Victims Support Group

If you are a survivor of a suicide victim then please join us. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Talbot Hospice House at 586 Cynwood Drive in Easton, MD 21601. For more information call 410-822-0444.

The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program

Yellow Ribbon is a community-based program using a universal public health approach. This program empowers and educates professionals, adults and youth. This program is established in the Talbot County Schools by implementing the "Ask4Help Cards" (Click on the link to view a sample card.) Suicide Warning Signs

  • Threatening to hurt or kill oneself or talking about wanting to hurt or kill oneself.
  • Looking for ways to kill oneself by seeking access to firearms, available pills, or other means.
  • Talking or writing about death, dying, or suicide when theese actions are out of the ordinary for the person.
  • Feeling hopeless.
  • Feeling rage or uncontrolled anger or seeking revenge.
  • Acting reckless or engaging in risky activities-seemingly without thinking.
  • Feeling trapped-like there's no way out.
  • Increasing alcohol or drug use.
  • Withdrawing from friends, family, and society.
  • Feeling anxious, agitated, or unable to sleep or sleeping all the time.
  • Experiencing dramatic mood changes.
  • Seeing no reason for living or having no sense of purpose in life.
