NAME AND ADDRESS CHANGED TO PROTECT PRIVACY
Name: John Doe
Branch of Service: Marines
Rank: Sergeant
Address: Ocean City, MD
DUTY: Iraq War
Prior to his deployment, Sgt. Doe was gainfully employed and had just purchased a home in Ocean City, Maryland. The home was in need of a great deal of work, however, Sgt. Doe was capable of performing this work because of his many abilities and variety of skills.
Upon his return from deployment he has had no steady employment and has existed on odd jobs to help make ends meet. He has applied for G.I. benefits to return to school and has been approved. He will begin course work at Wor Wic Community College this September and will receive a cost of living stipend from the G.I. bill while he is going to school.
In August, however, Sgt. Doe could not make his house payment. The small odd jobs he was picking up did not provide enough income to meet his monthly needs and make a house payment. Foreclosure was threatened. Your gift of $700 to Sgt. Doe stopped the foreclosure allowing him to stay in his home.
Now with the G.I. bill in place he will receive the necessary monthly living benefits to make the house payments.
Name: Bob Smith
Branch of Service: Army
Rank: Unknown at this time but he was a helicopter mechanic
Address: Easton, MD
DUTY: Gulf War
Mr. Smith, a Gulf War vet, has been struggling for some time. He obtained employment from xxxxx in Easton. At the time he was hired he was assured this was a permanent position with the company. However, once the busy summer season ended he was let go and told his position was only seasonal.
As a result of losing his job he could no longer make his rent payment for his apartment. Mr. Bargiband, the Veteran’s Resource Coordinator on the Eastern Shore, exhausted all local resources to obtain help for the rent payment. We issued a check in the amount of $262.00 to cover the remaining portion of his rent for September to stop Mr. Smith from being evicted. Mr. Smith is actively looking for employment but may need further assistance.
Name: Allen Heart
Branch of Service: Navy
Rank: Seaman
Address: Salisbury, MD
DUTY: Iraq War
Mike Bargiband found Mr. Heart homeless in the Salisbury area. Mike assisted in finding transitional housing for Mr. Heart and mental health treatment; however he could not apply for VA benefits or employment because he had no photo ID. Your fund enabled us to issue a check for $15.00 to the MVA in order for Mr. Heart to obtain a photo ID. He is now in the process of applying for VA benefits and seeking employment.
Name: Mike Jones
Branch of Service: Army
Rank: Unknown
Address: Pocomoke City Area
DUTY: Iraq War
Mr. Jones experienced a heart attack which triggered PTSD and an anxiety disorder. Even though he had scheduled appointments with the VA in Cambridge he was unable to drive himself there because he was afraid to leave his house. Mike found him and arranged for him to see a psychiatrist that lived within walking distance from his home. The psychiatrist prescribed medications for Mr. Jones however since the prescriptions were not written by a VA psychiatrist the VA refused to pay for the medications. Your fund allowed us the opportunity to write a check for $196.00 to the pharmacy to cover Mr. Jones’ medications for two months. The medications have stabilized Mr. Jones to the point that he is now able to drive himself to the VA clinic in Cambridge to continue his treatment and receive his medications.
