Mental Health First Aid

Learn the Symptoms of a Mental Illness and How to Respond

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based training that teaches the signs and symptoms of mental disorders, and provides individuals with the tools to respond to a psychiatric crisis, just as individuals receive first aid training to respond to physical problems.

Any group, individual or business interested in learning about mental health disorders, may attend this training, which covers anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, psychosis and suicide prevention.

The 12-hour course will be offered in Easton on Friday, January 20 and 27, 2012, from 9am to 4pm, at the offices of Emergency Management Services, 605 Port Street. Training is provided by state-certified instructors, and class sizes are limited to a maximum of 25 participants. Thanks to a grant from the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, the training is being offered for only $30 per person, including all materials.

Businesses may be particularly interested in learning the impact of mental health issues on the workplace, how to recognize its signs, and intervene in a timely manner when assistance is needed.

Continuing Education Units are available for human resources, social work, counseling, childcare and nursing.

Please call 410-822-0444 or write ssherman@mhamdes.org for more information or to register for this training.
