Elizabeth R. Perry Mental Health Career Program

The main goal of the Elizabeth Perry Internship Program is to give a college student an overview of various mental health professional opportunities in the Mid-Shore area. The program is a ten-week, work-study course beginning in the month of June and continuing into August, providing an opportunity to spend time with psychologists and psychiatrists, to observe rehabilitation programs, and to become familiar with the efforts being made to reduce stigma. The students are given material to read and various projects to take part in throughout the summer. Unfortunately, while there continues to be an increasing demand for mental health services in the Mid-Shore Area, it remains underserved in mental health. A student's increased interest in mental health career opportunities and an awareness of the shortage of mental professionals may help to rectify this problem. Students benefit greatly from this experience and there is a stipend paid to the student during his or her time here.
